Re: The Broken, The Beaten, and The Damned
Frank woke up with sun shining on his face and the warm inviting smell of breakfast in the air. He turned over, trying to remember what wonderful place he was staying that breakfast was both wanted and was happening. He looked about the room, not recognizing it at first. It was a bit cluttered with blankets, toppled shelves filled with musty books, and moth eaten curtains on the window.
Frank looked toward the other side of his bed, remembering now where he was and who he had been bunking with, only to see her missing. In a flurry of sheets, Frank got out of bed and rushed out of the room. He followed the sound of voices, not able to hear what they were saying, and fearing that Alexis was still sick. Frank burst into the room filled with voices, only to find that it was a dinning room.
The room was filled with morning light and the smell of breakfast. Frank scanned the table quickly, seeing that Alexis was sitting next to Lena and an empty chair that was to be his, along with everyone else. Everyone at the table were in different stages of bedroom dress, Alexis and Bob still in their hand-me-down pajamas, Alexis’ cuffs falling over her hands, along with Lena, while Gerard and Mikey were in over sized shirts and sweatpants.
“Morning sunshine,” Gerard said from next to Lena and Mikey, “sleep well?”
Frank nodded, taking his seat between Alexis and Bob.
“I think it’s the boat,” Mikey says, “all that rocking. Sleep better than ever here.”
Gerard threw his brother a teasing look before turning to Frank again, “we have plenty for breakfast. Mikey got stuff this morning.”
“Got stuff,” Frank asked, shoveling eggs* and pancakes onto his plate.
“Yeah,” Mikey said with a sly smile, “I go for grocery runs when we run out of food.”
“Do you feel it safe? I mean…won’t they notice you. Test you,” Alexis asked, fear in her eyes.
Mikey threw her a clever look, “well…they really never see me, so we are pretty safe.”
“You steal,” sputtered Frank past his breakfast.
“I look at it more as…taking what we deserve,” Mikey said with a cool air. “After all, the people we steal from would just as soon kill any one of us. I think we are getting what we need, and they won’t miss it much. We only take what we need.”
“Mikey is fast enough not to get hurt…kinda like Superman,” Gerard said with a grin. Lena elbowed him and giggled.
Frank eyed his food, looking around the table as well. There was plenty of food here, true, but not an extraordinary amount. He picked up his fork, poking his eggs.
“Its ok to eat it,” Alexis muttered to him, a piece of pancake hovering on her fork.
“I know it is,” he hissed back, looking at his own food, “it just…I dunno. Stealing makes us seem like we are what they make us out to be.”
“Its not what we want to do,” Gerard said softly, “but we have to live, and the canned stuff here ain’t pretty.”
Frank picked up a mouthful of eggs. “To hell with the law,” he muttered before popping the bite in his mouth with a smile.
The breakfast continued nicely, ending when Mikey insisted that they all take a tour of the boat. The troupe stood up, Mikey and Gerard leading the way, Lena and Bob next, with Alexis and Frank bringing up the rear. The boat, it seemed, was at one point a showboat. Rooms upon rooms were filled with costumes, props, and makeup. Lena looked over some of the dresses, shirts, and furry costumes, claiming that she might be able to make a coat out of some of them.
Alexis stood next to Frank in a thoughtful silence, admiring the boat quietly. As they walked off toward the hall that would hold their bedrooms in the next few hours, Alexis bent over to Frank, and kissed his cheek. Frank looked at her, a pink hue on his cheeks.
“What was that for?”
Alexis smiled shyly, “I wanted to thank you…without you I might still be sick. I feel much better today though so…um…thanks.”
“Oh,” Frank said softly, not quite sure what he had hoped that kiss had meant, “well…you’re welcome.”
They continued their walk in an awkward, waiting for Gerard or Mikey to tell them where their room would be.

Muhahaha...now no one will know who Lena bunked with. XD
* an- also, I had Frank eating eggs because he does. I read it somewhere, plus vegetarians eat eggs because they are unfertilized.

Re: The Broken, The Beaten, and The Damned
...sorry.
---------
Gerard smiled as he lead the group toward the hallway where they were going to stay, happy with the fact that the boat was full of people he cared about, and could grow to care about. He looked over his shoulder to see Lena talking with Mikey. Mikey was talking her ear off, more than likely about the fact that they had someone on the ship that could cook now. Lena threw Gerard one of her apologetic looks when she caught his stare. He smiled back at her, rolling his eyes. It was really good to have her back around.
As they came up on the rooms in the hallway, Gerard began pointing their rooms out, telling that he and Mikey were staying up further in this hallway incase there was trouble. Lena began wandering to the room he had pointed out as her’s and followed her into it. He wanted her to be pleased with it. As they walked in they both took in the meager decorations. There were curtains on the windows, a bed with covers, and even a sewing machine in the corner. Lena turned to him, and he felt his cheeks redden.
“We…we were going to come and get you o-ourselves,” Gerard muttered, “but before we could leave I had a dream of those other’s finding you.
Lena gave him a frail smile, sitting on her new bed and admiring the room.
“I-it’s not done,” he said. “I mean…we can do more to it…if you want.”
Gerard trailed off as Lena took his hand in her’s, her eyes distant.
“Its nice Gerard,” she said softly, “but you don’t ever need to put yourself in danger for me. I mean…you are a lot more important than I am.”
Gerard didn’t want to tell her that he thought she was just as important as he was. After all, she was one of the few humans who could have stood being around what he and his brothers all were. She had married his brother, and he loved her for that. He sat next to Lena on the bed, still holding her hand in his. He wondered slightly if she hated him for looking like Artimus. Sometimes, especially around his death, he had hated himself for looking so much like Artimus. He always found himself missing Artimus, and wishing that he had been strong enough…brave enough, to stay in that ‘town’ with Lena and Artimus. It was one of his many regrets.
“Lena,” Gerard said finally, “we…we wanted to bring you here because we missed you…and love you. I mean…it was torture watching you in my dreams…all that sadness…”
Lena turned to him, tears in her eyes but a smile on her face.
“Oh Gee…I love you too. I…”
She turned away from him, eyes on her hands.
“Sometimes though…its just hard. I mean, you look just like…like…”
“But I’m not,” Gerard protested, feeling a reluctant anger pumping through him. “I’ve never even tried to be him…and that’s not the point anyway. I didn’t even mean it that way. It was just…Mikes and I…we, we didn’t want you to get hurt or anything. I mean…I do love you Lena, I do, but it would feel…”
“Wrong,” Lena said softly.
Gerard turned to her, finding her blue eyes turning into his. He did love Lena, she had been his first crush when he had seen her in his dreams thanks to Artimus, and if Artimus had not found her first he might have tried to marry her himself…but now…now it felt like he was cheating with his brother’s wife.
“Y-yeah,” he said softly.
“I mean…we…we could still find him. Alexis, one night he talked through her…isn’t that a sign?”
Gerard looked at her, alarmed, but before he could question her about it, Mikey burst into the room.
“Hey Gee, I’m going to get bedding with the other two guys. Why don’t you help Alexis get settled?”
Gerard looked at Mikey, his eyes seeming a little distant. He frowned, but Lena stood up next to him with a smile.
“Sounds like a nice idea, I bet she really wants to talk with you Gerard. I’ll go down and see what of those costumes I can make new clothes out of.”
She stood on her toes and gave Gerard’s cheek a peck before joining Mikey, Bob, and Frank as they went toward the back of the ship.
Gerard shrugged off the weird feeling he had and went to the room that Alexis had taken. He found her on the unmade bed, looking about the empty room with wonder. He cleared his throat upon entering, not wanting her startled. He had seen some of what she could do in his dreams and none of it made him want to spook her in any way.
“Hey there,” he opened with, “liking your room?”
Alexis nodded, “its nice. I can’t remember the last time I had a room of my own.”
Gerard smiled, she seemed sweet and a bit young. She was still wearing the too big for her pajamas, her cuffs rolled to her elbow. This vision did not help her innocent stance. Gerard pulled a chair up to the bed and sat in it, not wanting to seem threatening. He had to admit to himself that he was looking forward to talking to her. She seemed so…interesting. He hoped that they were not interrupted before he was able to ask her at least some of what was on his mind.
“Don’t worry about that,” she said softly, looking at an empty shelf in her room.
“About what,” Gerard said softly, bewildered that she read his mind like that.
“About them coming back too soon,” she said with a smile, “I made Mikey and them all leave us alone.”
Gerard’s eyes grew large, “did…did you hurt them?”
“What? No!” Alexis was alarmed, “of course not! I just sent them on an errand. If they finish too soon, they will get hungry. I…I don’t ever want to hurt anyone.”
Gerard sighed, not sure he liked her solution. “Well…I suppose we should get started.”
Her eyes brightened a bit, “alright…what do you wanna know?”

Re: The Broken, The Beaten, and The Damned
A little rusty, but its ok.
----------
Gerard began trying to think of questions, but there were so many. After all, he had known for a long while that he was one of the ‘special three’, but he had yet to meet any of them and Alexis…Alexis was by far the most interesting.
Alexis’ brow furrowed as he thought, as if she were getting a headache.
“Oh, a-are you ok,” Gerard asked, alarmed.
“Yes, its just that,” she blushed a bit, “its just that your mind is everywhere…its kinda getting me flustered.”
“You can read minds?” Gerard was delighted.
“Er…kinda,” Alexis said, scooting closer to him on the bed. “I can just hear the thoughts at the edge, the clearest ones in your mind. I might be able to go deeper, but I’ve never tried.”
“What else do you do,” Gerard asked, seemingly enamored with her.
Alexis blanched slightly, “I…I’ve hurt people.”
Gerard knew this, he’d had a dream about it. Alexis pleading just before she killed two agents. He had this one a days before the one where she and her friends had met up with Lena.
“You only do it when you have to, right?”
She looked Gerard in the eyes, “its…its complicated. I mean…its really hard to control. Sometimes…sometimes I’ve let it slip.”
Gerard’s eyes grew wide, “how bad a slip?”
“I…I nearly really hurt Frank,” she whispered, “maybe other stuff. I black out afterwards mostly. I never really remember it.”
Gerard nodded, “yeah, that happens with my dreams sometimes too. That’s why I take a pencil and paper with me, incase so I can draw the dream and remember it.”
“I don’t want to remember,” Alexis said, “most of the time…its much too horrible.”
Gerard could really relate to that, he’d had horrible dreams before too. Dreaming of the death of his family was beyond the most horrifying thing ever. Instead of bringing that up though, he tried for a small change in subject.
“How long have you had your um…gift?”
Alexis shifted, “I am not sure. I’ve had it as long as I can remember.”
Gerard frowned. Usually powers didn’t come along until a person reached puberty. The youngest he knew of was Artimus, and he was nine when he got his.
“When did they take you,” he asked, then immediately regretted it. Alexis did not seem hurt or alarmed by the question though.
“How about I tell you everything,” she said with a smile, her eyes alight.
Gerard listened as she told about, her kidnapping, the facility, and her escape. He frowned at the mention of Patrick, remembering a dream he’d had recently.
“Patrick,” he started slowly, “he…he isn’t with us anymore is he?”
Tears sprung into Alexis’ eyes and she looked away. “No, he…he’s passed on.”
Gerard saw her shoulders shake slightly, as if she were sobbing. Part of him wanted to comfort her, but was afraid that she did not want that contact…and what she’d do if he touched her when she was upset with him. He had just reached out a hand to try to sooth her, when Frank came bursting in the room. He looked at the two of them, seeming momentarily confused and a bit awkward at the sight of Alexis’ tears.
“Um…Lex, Lena wants you for a fitting. She is trying to make you a coat or something to keep you warm.”
Alexis nodded, standing from the bed and brushing off tears from her cheek. As Frank led the way to Lena, Alexis turned back to Gerard for a moment.
“I…I’m sorry for um…before. It’s just…I still miss him. He is the only one I know who escaped with me. The only one who could understand.”
A shout of ‘Lex’ from down the hall caught her attention again. Her nose wrinkled a bit, but she gave Gerard a smile. “Well, talk to you later Gerard.”
He nodded, watching at her door as she ran down the hall toward Frank. Gerard frowned to himself when she was out of site. Though he could not place it, there was something very odd about Alexis. He just hoped it was his overactive imagination.
- -
Diana was in the ‘viewing’ room, reviewing tapes from the cameras in the wooded area north of the compound. These were the only way she could see her, the whole group, everything. But she knew the tapes were at an end. They had left that area of the woods now, making her feel abandoned. After all, she was the only one of her kind in the facility and she always felt alone. She rewound one of the tapes, looking for the part where the youngest male and female (a pyro and number A13X15 also know as Alexis) discovered the cameras. She paused when she reached it, looking through the static at the girl’s face. Her eyes, her nose and mouth, as she saw all these things she touched it on her own face. Diana’s eyes widened as she a realization hit her like a ton of bricks…but it could not be true…could it?
Diana popped the tape out, slipping it into a bag on her hip as she began to leave, wanting to review the tape in her room, alone at a later time. As she turned to leave, a man was standing in the doorway, arms crossed over his chest.
“Miss Diana, you know you can’t have that tape. It’s facility property.”
Diana rolled her eyes, and with a sigh and a thought the man dropped dead at her feet. She stepped over his rather large body and left the room without a thought of the man’s death as she walked herself to her room. Diana quickly hid her spoils, and then left the room to tell someone on clean up crew about her ‘accident’. At least this one was an easy clean up, he caught her in a hurry. As she was walking towards the office of the ‘head honcho’ her mind turned toward the future. He kept promising that any day now they would have them brought in, but still she was alone. Still, Diana had faith that he wanted them brought in nearly as much as she did. And though she was not completely sure why that was, she was not going to fight it. After all, as long as she got what she wanted, she did not care how much others suffered for her happiness.
