BOOKS!!!
Yeah...I know it is lame. But really and honestly, I don't read much fics or things unless someone says 'Hey Zomb, read this for me,' or 'Hey Zombie, this fic is really (insert reason here) you GOTTA read it'
So...when I have a moment to myself when I am not either:
A. Studing
B. At school
C. At work
D. Working at the radio station
E. Looking for a full time job
F. Working on stuff for my radio show
G. Family Stuff
H. Preparing for graduation..
I. ...you get where I am going?
Anyway...when I have time to myself I read...like a fiend. To be honest my fave rave author is King (Lis says you can really tell it in 'B-Side') and I read all his stuff. So...here are some of my favorite books at the moment.
"Dreamcatcher" by Stephen King
This story follows four childhood friends on their annual hunting trip. It is pretty creeping scary. It doesn't seem possible...but you never really know whats out there ya know. This story is to me what 'Catcher in the Rye' is to Gerard. I love this story and read it at least once a year. (My copy, which was my mother's...she has since given it up as her own, has lost its cover, a few front pages full of King Praise, and is water logged from reading it at the pool.)
Anywho, if you are looking for a kinda Sci-fi King book check this one out. You can kinda tell that him getting hit by that car got to him a bit though...he shows his old self more...more humanity.
"Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger
To be quite frank, I only read this at first because Gerard said it was his favorite book...and Mark David Chapman had John Lennon sign his copy hours before he killed him. Plus my mother said it was bad...but never why. It is honestly very odd. I need to re-read it...I liked it, but its odd. If you are looking for a book to make you think, you gotta read it though. Its small, but brainy. hahaha
The main character, Holden Caulfield, is kind of a lost guy who had a mental meltdown of sorts around christmas. (interesting fact, the school he gets kicked out of is called Pencey Prep)The whole story kinda follows him for about 72 hours or so as he gets home, hires a hooker, swears a lot, finds his sister, bunks with an old teacher, and tries to talk to this girl he likes but never does...reminds me of the lead in the book 'Rage'...also really good...but not printed here anymore. You gotta get it shipped from England. Its about school shootings. Talking about it...
"Rage" by Um...'Richard Bachman' (who gets what I mean?)
'Rage' is in first person, like 'Catcher in the Rye', and is told by this kind of messed up kid, Charlie Decker, that shoots his teacher...and another teacher, and then he and the class 'get it on'. (and no Brandi...not like you think
) It is really a great book, but the reason it is baned is that I school shooter had it in his locker...and it kinda makes you sympathise with the shooter in the book. I mean...it seemed like what I would do with a room full of hostages...I liked him...and kinda wanted to cause trouble. hahaha...er...*ahem*
Moving on...
"Alice in Wonderland/ Through the Looking Glass" by Lewis Carroll
I know that this one is way different from the others...but I love this book. When I am sick I either read this one or 'Dreamcatcher' depending on which is closer. I love these stories...Alice is my all time favorite fairy tale-ish character and I just can't help it. I was actually her for halloween last yeah. This year...zombie Raggdey Anne again.
Also...
"Lord of the Ring Series, including the Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolken
I love this book series. My dad had an old copy of them that were never read before and I read them all in about two months when I was about 16. I had so much free time then...and less headaches. hahahaa *sigh*. Anyway...they saved me a lot when I was doing lighting for a boring play in high school...and they are just so much better than the movies. 'Two Towers' was the first book I actually cried at...Sam was just so sad...I loved him so. *sigh*Anywho...great series if you like fictional stuff like that. The different languages and discriptions are kinda hard to read through, especially when the Orcs are pitching heads over the walls of some fort...its sick...but well worth the read.
"Narnia Series" by C.S. Lewis
Lewis actually started this series as an athest trying to prove how stupid christianity is...and ended up becoming a Baptist. I think you all know the basic plot...but they are really good. The ending of the series is...shocking. So...be prepared.
"Harry Potter Series" by J.K. Rowling
You knew it was coming. I was a big geek for the books, I even waited at the midnight things with my dad. It was our thing. I finished the last one on my vacation this summer...I stayed up til like 3 am with Lis's help when she texted me. haha. I kinda thought the end was a bit of a cop out...but it is a kids series...so...there is that. My mom had read all these spoilers so every chapter she was like, "so...did ____ just die?" And I would say no...or scream...or tell her I'd ruin the book for her if she didn't watch it. hahaha
And...last for now...
"Watership Down" by Richard Adams
This is about rabbits...yeah weak I know. But its really good. I can't describe it. It kinda has that element that you forget that they are just rabbits...until they talk about their long ears...or going under ground. lol They also tell stories about ' El-ahrairah' (which in rabbit speak means 'Prince with a thousand enemies'). The stories about El-ahrairah are told by the rabbits and remind me of old folk tales of Brer Rabbit. Still...it is really a great read and well worth getting.
So...I think I am done...and my headache is leaving...so thats good.
Hope you like these. XD

Re: Zombie recommends..
Wull yeah...course it is. Probably why Gerard and Frank get along so well. Pencey Prep even had a song called the Secret Goldfish, whch is a reference to the book. *beams*
I love book/music facts.
Oh...and I have Catcher in the Rye in paperback...I dunno where to find it in hardback. It might be out of hardback print...

Re: Zombie recommends..
In my opinion, the way I can tell if a book is good is if I can have it play out like a movie in my mind, so I guess me and Fleur have that in common:P
I have been wanting to read Catcher for quite awhile, but whenever I go to the bookstore I always forget to pick it up when I go to the bookstore. Darn my forgetful self!
